Ala., and Sarah Anderson of Nashville; 10 nieces and nephews. Miss
Armstrong was a lifelong member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church.

Sumner County Commissioner, and farmer. He was preceded in death by his
wife of 35 years, Dorothy Marie Baker; parents, Strader K. and Maggie Mae
Perdue Baker; sister, Margaret B. Hamilton. He is survived by sons,
Marcell (Darlene) Baker of Portland, Kevin (Julie) Baker of Gallatin;

and Lois Austin Donoho. He was a lifetime nursery man with J.B. Donoho &
Sons Nursery. He was a member of Portland Church of Christ and served as
their treasurer for 33 years, a former Director of Farmers Bank, a
Lifetime Honorary Member of Tennessee Nursery Association, a former
Director of Sumner County Farm Bureau, a former Manager of Portland
Strawberry Association, and a UT graduate and fan. He is survived by his
wife of 54 years, Evelyn Brown Donoho; son, James Blaine (Lisa Bain)
Donoho, III; daughter, Nancy Donoho (James Gilbert) Hodges; grandchildren,
James Blaine Donoho, IV, Bryan James Hodges, William Mack Hodges.
Visitation will be 11 a.m., until 8 p.m., Sunday, December 17, 2006.

James Harold Haynes,
age 86, of Edgewater, Fla. passed away on Friday, November 3, 2006. He was
born in Sumner County on March 7, 1920, to the late Charlie and Salle
Belle Haynes. He was a WW II Army veteran, seeing action in Guam and
Saipan before being wounded in Okinawa. Mr. Haynes retired after 38 years
with NASA as a quality control specialist, where he had worked on the
Lunar Rover. He was an active member of the Portland Church of Christ, was
a private pilot, played several musical instruments, including bass
fiddle, mandolin, and steel guitar. He is survived by sons, Lynn Haynes of
Wooten, Ky., Gary Haynes of Edgewater, Fla., Danny Haynes of Edgewater,
Fla.; daughter, Mary McGivney of Tryon, N.C.; brother, Charlie Joe Haynes

Douglas Link, age
82, of Cottontown, passed away Friday evening, September 1, 2006, in
Gallatin Rehabilitation and Nursing, after a formidable struggle with
Alzheimer’s disease. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, Brooks
and Nell Link; sister, Alene Ubbinga; and son, Duane Link. Loving
survivors include his wife Thelma (Steele) Link; son, Shelby Link,
daughter-in-law, Jayne; daughter, Shyla Moseley, and son-in-law, Everett;
grandchildren, Aaron Link and wife Megan Link, Sarah Beth Link, Nathanael
Hall, and T. J. Hall; sisters, Helen Roth, Ava Hicks, wife of Eugene
Hicks, Era Wooden, wife of Douglas Wooden; and brother, Wilbon Link,
husband of Dorothy. Also surviving are 16 nephews, 8 nieces, and numerous
great nephews and great nieces.
The Sumner County native bravely served his country with honor and pride
with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Paul
Hamilton. Mr. Link worked for General Motors 32 years in Columbus, Ohio.
Doug returned to his home farm in the Cottontown area following his
retirement in 1984. Doug was a founding member of VFW Post #8198 in Grove
City, Ohio, as well as a charter member of American Legion Post #164 also
of Grove City. He was also a charter member of Portland American Legion
Post #0075. Douglas was a faithful member of the New Deal Church of
Christ.
Mr. Link was admired and highly respected for his fair and even
disposition to all who knew him. Immediate and extended family will miss
his humor and the quiet strength he exhibited in all he confronted. Doug’s
unyielding resolve to improve and provide should serve as inspiration for
all family and friends. Friend, counselor, and devoted family man, Doug’s
outstanding values and spirit will remain a tribute to him.
Visitation hours are Sunday, September 3, 2006, from 2 p.m., until 6 p.m.,
and Monday, September 4, 2006, from 3 p.m., until 8 p.m. Funeral

Annie Ruth Moore,
age 101, of Portland, passed away Monday, May 22, 2006, at Highland Manor
Nursing Home. Mrs. Moore was born in Portland on November 15, 1904, to
the late Luther Presley and Addie Estelle Swan Lanier, and lived in the
Portland community most of her life. For over fifty years, ‘Miss Annie
Ruth’ served as a faithful and committed teacher in the Primary Department
of First Baptist Church of Portland. She was a school teacher, homemaker,
an active member of the Eastern Star for a number of years and a long-time
member of the Dogwood Hills Garden Club. She was predeceased by two
husbands, O.O. Massey and George Reid Moore; two sisters, Mary Ellen
Shannon and Clara Thomas Oakley, and one brother, Presley Swan Lanier.
Survivors include four nephews, Douglas Shannon of Portland, Carey Lanier
of Winston-Salem, N.C., David Lanier of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and
James Donald Oakley of Hartsville; niece, Ruth Douglas Lauderdale of
Lakeland, Fla., and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5

James Carlene Whittemore,
age 49, of Portland, passed away on
Thursday, October 26, 2006. He was born in Franklin, Ky., on April 25,
1957, to the late Cleon and Josie Whittemore. He is survived by his wife,
Lisa Whittemore of Portland; daughters, Kristy Whittemore of Portland,
Veronica Brewer of Madison, Crystal Dillehay of Madison; son, Jamie Lee
Whittemore of Portland; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Lilly Berry of
Indianapolis, Ind., Peggy West of Indianapolis, Ind., Emmer Dellehay of
Portland; brothers, William Whittemore of Portland, Forrest Whittemore of
Franklin, Ky. Visitation will be 11 a.m., until funeral time on Friday.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 27, 2006, at Coles
Springs Cemetery in Lafayette with Rich Shockley officiating.

Cleon Wilkinson,
88, of White House, passed away January 1, 2006. He was the
owner/operator of White House Farm Supply for 30 years. Mr. Wilkinson was
a veteran of World War II, past Master of Cherry Mound Masonic Lodge,
Shriner, and member of White House First United Methodist Church. He is
survived by his wife, Edna Kepley Wilkinson; son, Horace (Rita) Wilkinson
of Nashville; granddaughter, Amy Wilkinson; grandson, Brad (Shelley)
Wilkinson; great grandchildren, Bailey and Cole Wilkinson. Visitation
will be at Austin & Bell Funeral Home
in White House on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, from 2 p.m., until 4 p.m., and
6 p.m., until 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, January 4, 2006, from 9 a.m.,
until 10:30 p.m. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, January

age 94, of Portland, passed away April 22, 2006, at Highland Manor. Born
in Sumner County on June 26, 1911, to the late Brode and Mallie Fleming.
She is survived by her stepson, Robert L. (Sandra) Wilkinson of Portland;
grandchildren, Kay (Barry) Walker, Donny (Teresa) Wilkinson, Ronny
Wilkinson, Kerri Jo Wilkinson, all of Portland, Jerry (Gail) Wilkinson of
Livingston; great grandchildren, Lisa (David) Ledbetter of Livingston,
Matt (Karen) Wilkinson of Lafayette, Ind., Teddy (Jody) Baird of Portland,
Trevor Wilkinson of Portland; great-great grandchildren, Hayden Ledbetter,
Halle Ledbetter, Caleb Baird. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Lawrence Dee Wilkinson; great grandson, Anthony Baird; sister, Pauline

Vivian Covington Wilkinson,
age 93, of White House, passed away May 18, 2006. She was born in
Robertson County on July 31, 1912, to the late Noel and Neely Covington.
Mrs. Wilkinson was a Charter Member of White House United Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Wilkinson. She is
survived by her daughter, Sandra Summers of White House; son, Dale
(Phyllis) Wilkinson of Jackson, Tenn.; grandchildren, Robbie Wilkinson of
White House, Scott (Tracy) Summers of Gallatin, Brandon King of Jackson,
Tenn.; 2 great grandchildren. Visitation will be 5 p.m., until 9
p.m., Friday, and 9:30 a.m., until 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2006, at

Tenn., on October 14, 1948, to Elisher and Aldean Wilson. He is survived

of Nashville, Chad Wilson of Portland, Joshua Wilson of Portland; mother,
Dean Wilson of Portland; sister, Patricia (Troy) Kemp of Hendersonville;

Marni Leann Groves of Hermitage; stepsons, Boyd Young of Tullahoma, Joey
Young of Shelbyville; step-daughter, Angela Pickle of Lewisburg; sisters,
Edith Bowen of Portland, Barbara Davis of Old Hickory; brothers, James
Hardin of Gallatin, Jackie Hardin of Portland. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Hardin. Visitation will be 3
