1918, to the late Wise and Lizzie Eaden. She is survived by sons, Mike L.

Springfield; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Ray Agee, and son, Daniel Denning. Visitation will

and Leolie Bell. Mr. Bell retired after 32 years from Ross Gear, TRW of
Lebanon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobie Christine Bell. He is
survived by sons, Tim Bell of Texas, David Burke of Texas; daughter, Tammy
(Jon) Franklin of Portland; stepchildren, Lila Bertram, Helen Bocock,
Billy Escue, Glenda Graves; 10 grandchildren. Visitation will be 10

October 22, 2007, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He was born in
Nashville on November 3, 1945, to the late William and Irene Berlin. He
was employed by the State of Tennessee and had worked for many radio
stations in the Nashville area. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Berlin
of Portland; daughters, Kayleigh Berlin, Michelle Silcox, Renee Berlin,
all of Portland; son, Michael Berlin of Clarksville; special friend, Lanny
Harris of Portland. Memorial service for Mr. Berlin will be held on

19, 2007, at Hendersonville Medical Center. She was born in Sumner County
on November 24, 1926, to the late Frank and Lou Griffin. She was a
longtime member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in
death by her husband, John Earl "Shorty" Biggs. She is survived by
sons, Joe Biggs, and John Biggs, both of Cottontown; grandson, Jodie Biggs
of Austin, Tex.; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 11 a.m.,

Ruth "Rhea" Marie Newton Butler, age 77, of Springfield, passed
away June 9, 2007. She was born in Sumner County on March 15, 1930,
to the late Cliff and Anna Newton. She leaves behind her husband of 59
years, Charles L. Butler; son, Michael C. Butler; 3 grandchildren; 1 great
grandchild. Rhea enjoyed playing the piano. During the 1940s and 50s, she
could be heard singing on WHIN radio station in Gallatin with Johnny
Maddox, Marvin Charles, Sonny Lowery, and J.O. Templeton. She also sang at
her church, First Baptist in Gallatin. She loved jewelry and could spot a
diamond a mile away. Visitation will be 2 p.m., until 8 p.m., Sunday, June
10, 2007, and 10 a.m., until funeral time on Monday. Funeral service

Dr.
Albert G. Dittes,
94, a family physician in the Portland area for 53 years, died of natural
causes at Highland Manor Nursing Home on March 13.
He was born on April 10, 1912, the day the Titanic left England on its
maiden voyage, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Gotthold and Anna Dittes, an
immigrant couple from Germany. He grew up working in his father's grocery
store in various towns on Long Island.
His formal education began at the age of 21 when he went to Madison
College, Madison, Tenn., and then on to medical school at Loma Linda
University in Southern California, graduating from there in 1941. He
served for two years in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during World
War II.
He joined the Portland medical practice of Dr. Reuben Johnson in 1946 and
spent the rest of his life in this area.
Survivors are his wife Elinor Steen Dittes; two sons, Albert Gordon Dittes
of Portland and David Steen Dittes of Nashville; two daughters, Frances
McNulty of Portland and Elizabeth (Chris) Hankins of Ooltewah, Tenn.;
seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7 p.m., until 9 p.m., Wednesday, March
14, 2007, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home. Dr. Dittes will lie in
state at the church one hour prior to service time. Funeral

Patrick Wayne Freeman, age 69, of Mt.
Juliet, passed away February 23, 2007, at Williamson County Medical
Center. He was born March 18, 1937, in Mitchellville to the late Claude
Ray and Lizzie Emma Freeman. After graduating from Simpson County High
School, he joined the US Air Force, was enlisted for several years, then
qualified for pilot training and received his wings in Greenville, Miss.,
in 1960. He flew KC97’s and KC135 aircraft in Strategic Air Command in
Puerto Rico, Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., for several years, and a tour in
Viet Nam flying the 02 as a forward air controller. In 1968, he returned
from Viet Nam and retired from the Air Force. He attended MTSU. He
loved to fish on his lakefront property on Old Hickory Lake. He was an
active member of the Shriners and Masons, Kentucky Colonel, and Air
Commando Association. He is survived by daughter, Patti Freeman; brother,
C.W. Freeman; sister, Lillian Wall. Preceded in death by brothers, Guthrie
Freeman, Donald Freeman; sister, Betty Jo Matthews.

December 9, 1920, to the late William and Hazel Hunnicutt. He is survived
by his beloved wife of 61 years, Helen Smith Hunnicutt; daughters, Shelia
(Charlie) Groves of Portland, Shirley (C.W.) Slade of Antioch;
grandchildren, Chuck Groves, Tammy (Kevin) Brown, Steve Sellers; great
grandchildren, Kate, Rachel, Tylor, Kabel, Dakota, and Emily. He was a
U.S. Army Veteran, served in Africa and Italy for three years during WW
II. Retired from Genesco in Gallatin; and he was a longtime member of the

14, 2007, at her residence. She was born in Rodfield, Pa., on August 30,
1913, to the late Henry and Julia Bendel. She was preceded in death by her
husband, William I. Rambo. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara A.
Raber; granddaughters, Susan Leonardini, and Carol (Regis) Bazenet; great
grandchildren, John W. Leonardini, Michelle E. Leonardini, Jessica A.
Bazenet, Mary E. Bazenet, Julia M. Bazenet; sisters, Leona Hunter,
Margaret Clark, May Ottey, and Shirley Soncini; brothers, John Elmer
Bendel, and David Royce Bendel. Mrs. Rambo was a former Girl Scout Leader
and Sunday School Teacher in the United Methodist Church. She was active
in the United Methodist Women, and will be remembered for her work in the

2007. He was born in Sumner County on January 12, 1921, to Jimmy and
Callie Reddick, who passed away when he was two years old. He is preceded
in death by foster parents, Brode and Susie Kirkham, their daughter, Alma;
brothers, Robert and Hazel Reddick. He is survived by his wife, Roberta
Reddick of Portland; son, Mike (Ruth) Reddick of Portland; grandchildren,
Karen (Brian) Stephens, Kelly (Mac) Alsup; great grandchildren, Emma
Stephens, Macy Alsup; nieces and nephews. Raymond loved the Lord, and was
an example of true Christianity and practiced it before others daily.

Rev. Russell E. Strunk, age 79, of Arlington, Ind., passed away
April 7, 2007. He was born in Flatrock, Ky., to the late Otha and Grace
Strunk. Rev. Strunk was a WWII veteran and worked at International
Harvester until his retirement in 1977. He was a minister for over 30
years. He spoke the Word at nursing homes, and he was a member of Church
of God in Cumberland, Ind. He He is survived by daughters, Theat McCarter,
Jacqueline Teague, and Carolyn (James) Spiker; 9 grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Teola Strunk,
and son, Dwight Strunk. Visitation will be 3 p.m., until 8 p.m., Thursday,
April 12, 2007, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home. Funeral
service will be 1 p.m., Friday, April 13, 2007 at Roberts Tabernacle
Church. Interment will be at Roberts Tabernacle Church Cemetery.

Dixie Suttle, age 83, of Bethpage, passed away June 18, 2007,
at Westmoreland Healthcare. She was born in Sumner County on January 2,
1924, to the late Wilson and Effie Graves. She was a retired beautician.
She is survived by sons, Rocky (Betty) Suttle of Bethpage, Rhyon Suttle of
Bethpage; grandchild, Craig Suttle of Bethpage; sister, Virgie (Clem)
Huddleston of Bethpage; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation
will be 11 a.m., until 9 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2007, and 10 a.m., until
9 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral
Home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 21, 2007,
at Sulfur Fork Church with Dee Russell officiating. Interment will be
at Sulfur Fork Cemetery. |

Laurene Gladen Thomerson, age 90, of Portland, passed away
September 3, 2007, at Portland Medical Center. She was born March 4, 1917,
to the late Robert Lee and Vennie Smith Woodard. She is survived by sons,
Ronnie (Sandra) Thomerson of Portland, Bud (Sandy) Thomerson of Cottontown;
brother, Owen (Mollie) Woodard of Bethpage; sister, Frances Durham of
Gallatin; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great
great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 4 p.m., until 8 p.m., Wednesday,
September 5, 2007. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday,
September 6, 2007, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Alex
Jackson officiating. Interment will be at Upper Bethpage Cemetery.
