Garry David Atchison, age 68, of Hartselle, Ala., passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Portland on May 31, 1939, to the late Paul and Edith Faullin Atchison. Mr. Atchison is survived by his wife, Joyce Atchison of Hartselle, Ala.; son, Brian Atchison of Portland; brother, Ronny Atchison and wife Carolyn of Nashville; nephew, Kevin Atchison of Manchester; step-daughters, Kim Sapp and Nesha Mahathy, both of Hartselle, Ala., and Nikki Long of Moulton, Ala.; stepson, Joel Sapp of Hillsboro, Ala.; 6 step grandchildren.   The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service.  Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Alex Jackson officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice of the Valley, P.O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35601.
Benton Mac Barber, age 81, of Gallatin, passed away on May 2, 2008, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was born in Sumner County on December 23, 1926, to the late Benton MacMillian and Mary Aldridge Barber. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Barber. He is survived by daughter, Christy (Ricky) Young of Castalian Springs; sons, Benton R. Barber of Gallatin, Daryl (Barbara) Barber of Gallatin; grandchildren, Shelly Gregory, Shane Barber, Courtney Matthews, Sloan Barber, Allison Barber, Allison Young; great grandchildren, Jasmine and Kaleb Wilson, Qierra Gregory; sisters, Annie York, Helen Monday, Zelma Stinson; brothers, Lloyd Barber, Billy Joe Barber.  Visitation will be 4 p.m., until 8 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2008, and 1 p.m., until 8 p.m., Tuesday.  Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Park.
Lorene Barber, age 87 of Portland, passed away January 17, 2008, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born in Davidson County on July 5, 1920, to the late Lon and Della Rippy. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Stevens of Lafayette; son, Dan Barber of Hendersonville; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Quinton A. Rippy of Franklin, Ky. Visitation will be 1 p.m., until 9 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2008, at Lakeside Church in Westmoreland, with Bro. Leon Graves officiating. Interment will be at Roberts Tabernacle Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan Zettel, Mark Schultz, Kelly Barber, Ben Stevens and Andy Mason.
Carolyn Young Jenkins Barnette, age 60, of Montgomery, Ala., passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008, with her family at her side, after a bout with cancer. She was born in Simpson County, Ky., on September 10, 1947, to Floyd Young Jenkins and Josephine Pinson Jenkins. During her family’s near 30-year stay in Montgomery, she was involved in the arts, education and the International Ministry at her church. She is survived by her parents, Floyd and Josephine Jenkins of Portland; husband, Charles Robert Barnette of Montgomery, Ala.; son, Charles Jonathan (Luanne Killian) Barnette of Madison, Ala.; daughters, Jennifer Jenkins Barnette of New York, N.Y.; Amy Carolyn Barnette of Memphis. There will be a visitation from 2:30 pm till 3:30 pm, Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Graveside service will be 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Maple Hill Cemetery.  The family requests that memorial donations be made to the International Ministry at First Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ala., or to the charity of one’s choice.
John David Benjamin, Sr., 73, of Portland, passed away January 17, 2008. He was born in Pennsylvania on July 13, 1934, to the late Austin and Flossie Gail Benjamin.  He was the owner of J.B. Motors and Benjamin’s One Stop in Ithaca, N.Y.,, and Benjamin Automotive in Portland. He is survived by his wife, Carol Benjamin of Portland; sons, John David Benjamin, Jr., of Spencer, N.Y., Douglas Robert (Jennifer) Benjamin of Portland; daughters, Denise (David) McDermitt of Ithaca, N.Y., Cindy Rollins of California; grandchildren, Brenna, Autumn, Alleana and Ian Benjamin, Brian McDermitt; sister, Naomi Cook of Monroeton, Pa. He was preceded in death by sister, Winona Schoonooer; brothers, Austin and Levergne Benjamin. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home in Portland, Tenn. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
Lattie Myrtle Gant Borders, age 97, of Portland, passed away January 19, 2008. Born in Macon County on September 6, 1910, to the late Freeley and Isabelle Driver.  Survived by her daughters, Dorothy Williams of Portland, Derotha Overmyer of Indianapolis; sisters, May Doss of Lafayette, Anna Carter of Scottsville, Ky.; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husbands, Willie Gant and Larry Borders; son, Earl Gant; grandson, Gerald Williams.   Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Georgia Mae Brown, age 78, of Portland, passed away January 30, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was born in Davidson County on July 17, 1929, to the late Roy and Annie Hall Livingston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alford Brown, and brothers, Claude, Herman, and Russell Livingston. She is survived by her daughters, Betty (Danny) Richardson of Mt. Juliet, Darlene (Bill) Rush of Portland; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Juanita) Livingston of Portland, Willie Livingston of Portland, and Roy Livingston, Jr., of Portland. Visitation will be 3 p.m., until 9 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2008, and 10 a.m., until 9 p.m., Friday.  Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. James Monroe Brown, age 84, born June 5, 1923, passed away March 29, 2008, at The Medical Center of Bowling Green, Ky. He is the son of the late Lee and Fannie Hardison Brown. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Lois Jean Brown of Franklin, Ky.; daughters, Sherry Shipley and Sandra Spry, both of Hendersonville, and June Brown, of Tennessee; son, Jimmy Brown of Hendersonville; step-sons, Tim Spurlock of Cottontown, David and Jim Spurlock, both of Nashville; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Frances Denney of Portland, Violet Hudnall of Hendersonville and Hazel Raines of Hermitage.   Visitation will be 1 p.m., until 9 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2008, and 1 p.m., until 8 p.m., Monday.  Funeral services are 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Busch, age 43, of Portland, passed away February 26, 2008, at Portland Medical Center. He was born in Davidson County on October 2, 1964. He is survived by his parents, Freddie and Leila Busch of Portland; sister, Darlene (David) Fairchild of Shawnee, Kans.; nieces, Beckie and Rindy Fairchild; nephew, Christopher Fairchild. Kenneth Lowell Cantrell, age 75, of Portland, passed away April 10, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Vian, Okla., on July 21, 1932, to the late Opie and Jennie Lee Cantrell. He retired from the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Cantrell of Portland; daughter, Anita Carter of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; sons, David Cantrell of Cottontown; Daniel Cantrell of Cross Plains, Jonathan Cantrell of High Point, N.C.; sisters, Carole Skaggs of Ashland City, Dorothy Randall of Phoenix, Ariz., Juanita Turner of Pleasant View. Alice Rhea Mink Cash, “Granny Alice,” age 68, of Portland, passed away January 2, 2008, at Baptist Hospital. She was born in Robertson County on March 12, 1939, to the late William and Maffie Link. She retired from Sunbeam Corporation and H.G. Hill’s Deli. She was a member of Fountain Head Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” Cash of Portland; daughters, Debbie (Mike) Pearson of Orlinda, Cindy Patten of Portland; sons, Bill (Debbie) Gamble of Portland, Larry “Joey” (Jamie) Johnson, Jr., of Portland; stepchildren, Angie (Chris) Gress of Stonefort, Ill., Debbie Burton of St. Louis, Mo., Johnathon (Reba) Cash of St. Louis, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Maggie Mink; sister, Ruby Sims; brother, John Wayne Mink. Steven Dale Childers, age 50, of Portland, passed away January 1, 2008. He was born in Huntington, W.Va., on December 7, 1957, to Lester and Joann Childers. Jane Elizabeth Webster Christian, age 82, of Portland, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2008, at NHC in Hendersonville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otho and Lucille Webster, and brother, Jack C. Webster. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Eugene Christian of Portland; her daughter, Connie Keele of Manchester; son, Wade (Debbie) Christian of Nashville; grandchildren, Bradley and Zachary Keele of Manchester, and Leslie Christian of Nashville; sisters, Dorothy Henry of Goodlettsville, Sarah (Ken) Dance of Valrico, Fla.; sister-in-law, Virginia Webster of Nashville, several nieces and nephews. Larry Wayne Clinard, age 60, of Portland, passed away April 27, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He was born on February 27, 1948, to J.C. and Mary Clinard. He is survived by daughters, Deana (Jeff) Key of Bethpage, Vickie (Kenny) Clark of Portland; son, Wayne (Michelle) Clinard of Portland; mother, Mary Clinard of Portland; sisters, Betty Pugh of Carthage, Melinda Robertson of Portland; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Bobby Joe Clubbs, age 68, of Portland, passed away on January 22, 2008, at Portland Medical Center. He was born on March 21, 1939, to the late William and Leona Clubbs. He is survived by his daughters, Tina Jean Barnes of La Vergne, Penny Allison of Portland; son, Bobby Dale Clubbs of Goodlettsville; 4 grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Shelton of Ohio, Annie Margret Byrum of Portland, Mary Lou Fleming of Portland, Shirley Jean Key of Portland. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.
William Carrol (Bill) Covington, age 81, of Robertson Co., born September 27, 1926 to Hubbard Ford and Viola Warren Covington. Passed away March 14, 2008, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.  Mr. Covington was an honored Korean War veteran, former Road Superintendent for Robertson Co., worked for the State of Tennessee at the Welcome Center and was on the Board of Directors for The Farmers Bank for 15 years. Mr. Covington is survived by his sister, Helen Hale of Cross Plains, Tenn., brothers, H.F. Covington, Jr., of Gallatin, and Clayton Covington of Florida; a loving friend, Jane Minnick, of Franklin, Ky. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Starks Covington; parents, H. F. and Viola Warren Covington; brother, John Warren Covington; sister, Elizabeth Ann Covington. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 9 p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2008.  Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 17, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Robertson Co.
Leota Viola "GiGi" Cron, age 79, of Portland, passed away February 15, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was born in Winter Park, Fla., on May 6, 1928, to the late George and Vesta Greemore. She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Mark) Ferguson of Portland, Sharon (Mike) Hinton of Portland, Melody (Harold) Hudson of Portland; sons, James Essom (Anna) Cron of Portland, George Edward (Enola) Cron of Portland, William Marvin ( Lisa) Cron of Hermiston, Ore.,; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Loretta Wilson of Mountain Grove, Mo.; stepdaughters, Betty Pearson, Peggy Scott, Jean Gilmer. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Rachel Cron, and stepdaughter, Callie Smith. Johnnie Gillington Dillard, age 97, of Franklin, Ky., passed away January 19, 2008 at Franklin Medical Center. He was born in Robertson County on November 17, 1910, to the late James and Nora Dillard. He is survived by his wife Lola Mae Dillard of Franklin, Ky.; daughters, Stella (John) Curry of Franklin, Ky., Carol (Rondel) Miller of Franklin, Ky., Jean Strode of Scottsville, Ky.; sons, Wallace (Ruth Ann) Dillard of Franklin, Ky., Joe (Mary) Dillard of Franklin, Ky., Buzz (Judy) Dillard of Franklin, Ky., Robert (Patsy) Dillard of Franklin, Ky., Jackie (Brenda) Dillard of Franklin, Ky., Ralph (Bobbie) Dillard of Franklin, Ky., Jerry (Carolyn) Dillard of Orlinda, Tenn.; 22 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Harold Dillard. Roy Burton Durham, age 100, of Harvest, Ala., formerly of Portland, passed away January 24, 2008. He was born in Sumner County on October 9, 1907. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Gladys Hall Durham, and daughter, Frances Marie Waldon. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Knight of Harvest, Ala.; sister, Virginia Collins of Nashville; grandchildren, Kelly Simmons of Ardmore, Jeffery Knight of Huntsville, Ala., Susan Darrongine of Huntsville, Ala., Jeremy Knight of Huntsville, Ala., Tina Waldon of Ashland City, Ty Walden of Murfreesboro, Glenda Griffin of Shelbyville; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson.  Visitation will be 3 p.m., until 7 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2008.  Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with interment at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Rebecca Norris Dyhouse, age 94, of Cross Plains, Tenn., passed away April 1, 2008.  Mrs. Dyhouse was born January 27, 1914, in the Mulloys Community of Robertson County to T.L. and Nellie Whiteside.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Weiss of the Clearview Community and husband George Dyhouse of Pittsburg, Pa.; sisters, Louise Jones of Cross Plains, Evelyn Starks of White House; nephew, Ward Starks of Madison, Tenn.  Mrs. Dyhouse is survived by step-sons, Richard Dyhouse of Chicago, Ill., and Bob Dyhouse of Flushing, Mich.; nieces, Dora Hardcastle of Cross Plains and Oneal Gregory of the Clearview Community; nephews, Morgan Moore of the Clearview Community, Irvin Starks of Cross Plains, and James Weiss of Goodlettsville.  She is also survived by many grand- and great-nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Dyhouse passed away at the home of Rhonda Collins of Cross Plains.  Mrs. Collins and her family became an extended family to Miss Rebecca and were a source of great joy and comfort to her.  Mrs. Dyhouse is a graduate of Cross Plains High School and was a member of the Clearview Church of Christ for 62 years.  Known by most as Aunt Beck, Miss Rebecca or simply Becky, she lived a full and active life.  She enjoyed playing cards, dominos, gardening, flowers, travel, motorcycle riding, show horses and, most of all, her family and her friends.  Upon retirement, she lived in Arcadia, Fla., and Cross Plains.  She was involved in the early days of the organization of the NFO.  Visitation will be 3 p.m., until 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2008, and 11 a.m., until funeral time on Thursday.  Funeral service will be 3 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Mike Moore and Lowell Harris officiating.  Pallbearers are Jackie Carter, Roy Gambrel, Jim Morris, Bill Pruett, Jody Starks and Jason Weiss.  Interment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens, Franklin, Ky.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the New Deal Church of Christ Building Fund may be made.
J.L. Elks, age 72, of Cottontown, passed away on January 17, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Sumner County on April 24, 1935, to the late Ammon and Melise Gray Elks. He was preceded in death by his wife Estelle Elks. Survived by children, Karen (Dan) Thomason of Montana, and their daughter, Michele Gearhart of Idaho; Jerry (Anna “Sissy”) Elks of North Carolina, Linda (Fred) Gentry of Murfreesboro, Brenda (David) Reese of Hendersonville, Richard (Jessica) Seyler of Cottontown, Tammy Smith of Hendersonville; 15 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, William (Evelyn) Elks of Cottontown. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until 9 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2008, and 10 a.m., until service time on Saturday.  Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Bro. Pauline England, age 89, of Portland, passed away February 21, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was born in Sumner County on May 10, 1918, to the late Fay Burton and Sudie Goostree Hobdy. She is survived by her daughter, Betty (James) Hodges of Portland; sons, Earl England, Jr., of Portland, Harvey Joe (Barbara) England of Portland, Bailey Wayne (Teresa) England of Portland; daughter-in-law, Pat England of Portland; brother, James Allen Hobdy of Portland; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 2 step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl England, Sr.; sons, Billy Ray England, Dennis Fay England; daughter-in-law, Emma Jean England.  Visitation will be 1 p.m., until 9 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2008.  Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Br. Andy Mathias officiating. Interment will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Annie Marie Gant, age 85, of Portland, passed away January 16, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was born April 15, 1922, to the late William Jefferson and Sue Marie Jackson Meador. She was a lifelong member of Portland Church of Christ, volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, 4-H and local home demonstration clubs.   She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing and raising rabbits. She is survived by her sister, Polly Ann (Robert) Meador of Gallatin; brothers, William K. Meador of Gallatin, Jack Ed (Mazelle) Meador of Nashville; sister-in-law, Margarita Meador; brothe- in-law, Olan Douglas; several nieces and nephews. Larry Law, age 75, of Portland, passed away February 23, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Sumner County on January 15, 1933, to the late William and Jane Law. Larry started a lifelong career in agriculture in school, belonging to the 4-H Club. Then he was involved with Tennessee Farm Bureau YF&H, The National Farm Organization, Sumner County Co-Op Board of Directors, member of Darymen, Inc., and the Sumner County Cattlemen's Association. Larry also took time to open his farm for farm tours to help educate children in the benefits of agriculture, as an example in the grain, dairy, and beef industry of agriculture. As an avid trail rider and wagon master on trail drives, Larry enjoyed both, with faithful stock, Sweet Pea and Billy Bob. Addie Pearl West, age 72, of Portland, passed away April 30, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Sumner County on June 30, 1935, to the late James Henry and Ethel May Eckol Hammond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Ray West; and son, Robert West. She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Mantlo, Diane (Ricky) McCloud, Sherri (Wesley) Shankle, all of Portland; sons, Bobby West, Larry (Darlene) West, both of Portland, and Jeffery West of Louisiana; brother, Bobby Hammond of Portland; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Eugene "Gene" White, age 77, of Portland, passed away on February 10, 2008, at Sumner Regional Medical Center. He was born in Robertson County on January 30, 1931. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Annetter Flatt White, and brother, Lymon White. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Groves of Portland; brother, R.C. White of Portland; several nieces and nephews. Kenneth Ray Whitledge, age 71, of Portland, passed away March 20, 2008, at Hendersonville Medical Center. He was born in Henderson County, Ky., on April 11, 1936, to the late Verder and Clara Whitledge. He was an inspector for Peyton Midsouth. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Whitledge of Portland; daughters, Karen Cox of Henderson, Ky., Donna Whitledge of Henderson, Ky.; sons, Kenneth Whitledge, Jr., of Houston, Tex., Bobby Whitledge of Dixon, Ky.; step-daughter, Jeana Gibson of Portland; step-sons, Gregory Hope of Henderson, Ky., Jeffrey Hope of Henderson, Ky.; sister, Dean Reid of Evansville, Ind.; brother, V.E. Buddy Whitledge, Jr., of Henderson, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren. Helen Wilkinson, age 90, of Portland, passed away March 10, 2008, at her residence. She was born in Sumner County on August 16, 1917, to the late Jess and Eunice Brown. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Wilkinson, and sister, Gaynell Austin. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Freeland (Bill) Kemp of Dallas, Tex.; sons, Charles H. (Betty) Wilkinson of Portland, Larry (Janice) Wilkinson of Murfreesboro; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; longtime caregiver, Olivia Dotson. Visitation will be 4 p.m., until 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2008, and 4 p.m., until 8 p.m., on Thursday.  Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2008, at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with Rev.
